The World Of Gadgets - Gizmos - Inventions

Are you as fascinated with gadgets, gizmos and inventions as I am? You must have some interest or you wouldn’t have found this page.

My interest started in my mother’s kitchen. She was one that found and bought these contraptions, even if they weren’t used that much. This was in the pre-infomercial - but she still was able to find all kinds of them.

But these gadgets, gizmos and inventons got me into thinking about and loving the creativity that comes out of people’s minds - many minds looking to find a problem and solve it - even sometimes when the “problem” is ludicrous.

Are you curious how people come up with these ideas - and then how they are made? I think this process is intriguing. Some people can look at a problem - and a light bulb lights up over their head (like in the cartoons) - and there it is -a new thing like - ta-da - radio, or ... light bulbs, or something like the “Furby.” Amazing!

Although this site is meant to be for you, I should let you know me. I spent quite a few years as an IP attorney, helping inventors prepare their ideas to be patented. Working with inventors led to some great experiences. Inventors I met range from “regular Joes” to “Wacky.”

I dealt with a range of people from - career firemen (who invented a hose-winder) - to a fisherman who developed a combo backpack/fishing chair to make his life easier - to a guy who had hair like Einstein, only balder.

His hair stuck out in long strands every which way, like he had an experiment blow up in his face. He also had thick glasses and was non-verbal - the epitome of the absent-minded professor or mad scientist. His invention was about neutralizing nuclear waste by shooting it into space and using the Van Allen Zone. I wish I could tell you it worked, but unfortunately he died before we could completely prosecute his patent.

Let me clarify something. I am not, and have never been a Registered Patent Attorney. So what I say here is based on my experience working with inventors, but not formal training or certification. I helped inventors prepare their inventions for a patent attorney to write up (which is actually the fun part of the process). Getting the idea down on paper with drawings is a major step to getting a patent.

Of course, in today’s world, “invention” is only the start of things. You’ve heard the phrase, “Marketing is King?” Unfortunate but true. 99% of inventing something is trying to get your gadget, gizmo or invention to market. And one of the strongest marketing tools for gadgets and gizmos is the “infomercial.” We plan to get into the infomercial process and how you are sucked in to buy - but that’s another page.
